Members
The
Kingston Area Network has many public and private sector
members. The names of the KANnet members and brief descriptions
of their organizations are as follows:
-
Algonquin
and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board - covers
the region which extends east-west from Gananoque to Trenton,
and north-south from Picton to Whitney, just south of
Algonquin Park.
- Limestone
District Board of Education - covers the former Frontenac
County running north to Highway 7.
- Queen's
University - has over 8,000 network connections for
students, faculty and staff, including all residences. They also
provide dial-up access for their faculty, staff and students,
and are a member of ONet. They also provide video-conferencing
capability.
- Kingston
General Hospital - which is part of a larger private network
among 4 area hospitals, and is planning for a wide-area network
linking 23 regional health care institutions and organizations.
They had 10 locations currently needing upgraded connections
- St. Lawrence
College - has three institutions from Kingston to Cornwall
that are linked for the purposes of video-conferencing
- The County
of Lennox and Addington, whose dial-up sites throughout the county
have limited their access. Their sites are primarily located at
libraries
- City of
Kingston - with no sites of their own during the initial part
of this survey, but with intentions to have a minimum of 31 sites.
From a broader perspective, their sites include the library sites,
part of which are funded through the Industry Canada Community
Access program for rural regions
- Kingston
Frontenac Public Library - is an active participant in developing
and renewing community partnerships. KFPL provides an accessible,
inclusive, comfortable and welcoming place for all citizens to
meet and interact with books and internet access terminals at
all branches.
